In accordance to european legislation, a Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) program at the workplace is not mandatory, but there are special demmands which could be attended throught LOTO. Thus, if a LOTO process is applied, it must comply with Electronic Code of Federal Regulations title 29 CFR § 1910.147, which determines that a company must implement, at a minimum, the following requirements:

1. Developing an overall strategy: Lock Out Tag Out
2. Elaboration of a list of machines and points that need a Lock Out Tag Out process.
3. Ensuring that all equipment/points necessary for blocking and identification are available.
4. Development of a LOTO process for the machines and designated points.
5. specialized training of personnel for hazardous energy identification and the LOTO process.
